Driving to Kino
Let's take a Road Trip 

Passport: passport or birth certificate and photo ID, or ground travel passport I.D. card is required to re-enter the USA.

Mexican Visas - Car Permits:  
if you are staying for less than 2 weeks, a Visa is not required. Car permits are no longer required to travel as far south as Obregon.

You may bring:  trailer, boat, ATVs, jet skiis. NO permits are required for these vehicles.

Mexican Auto Insurance: is recommended    you may purchase just outside or inside the Mexican border or online

Highway:  the Mexican Highway 15, is a toll road with 3 toll booths for an approx-imate total of  $15 dollars. US Dollars are accepted. 
The exchange rate may be less than the official rate. The rate will be posted on booth.

Food:   conveinence stores,   restaurants  
and taco shops are plentiful.   American fast food chains are in Hermosillo, however, the food may taste slightly different.

Caution:  the highway is very narrow in parts with no shoulders. It will require your strict attention.
 



Caution: Topes - Speed Bumps
every town has them. Signs may not be posted well in advance, so be on the look out for speed bump signs. These speed bumps are  whoppers!  



Gasoline:
  the only gas station in Mexico is Pemex.   They are plentiful along the way and the price is the same at all of the stations. They take credit cards & US Dollars. The exchange rate will be posted. Restroom conditions may vary. Some may charge 2 pesos per person. Play it safe and bring your own toilet paper.

Hermosillo:  is a very large and busy city with   heavy traffic.   Stop lights flash on green & are only yellow for 2 seconds before turning red. It is   best to stop on the flashing green light. Follow the signs to Bahia de Kino.

 

 
From Phoenix to Nogales - approximately 2.5 hours

From Tucson to Nogales - approximately 1 hour
 
From Nogales to Hermosillo - approximately 4 hours

From Hermosillo to Kino - approximately 1 hour

These estimations do not account for stops.

The Prefered Border Crossing:  the truck route
border crossing is prefered due to it's lack of
congestion for autos. There is an exit for an
International Border Truck Route before you get into downtown Nogales.
